WORKING FACTORY RESET LED BLINKING AND TROUBLESHOOTING 

PCB AND COMPONENT DESCRIPTION 

B-Board
The circuits located on the B-Board perform all Video and Audio processing functions. It also contains all the microprocessor control circuits. The following circuits are included on this board.

LD1-Board
This board contains three power converter circuits to drive the top, bottom, left, and right edge LED backlight system. The drive outputs for the LED system are between 56Vdc and 95Vdc.
GS1-Board
Except for some regulator circuits on the B-Board, the GS1-Board is the power supply system board, which includes the following components and circuits.

LCD Panel Assembly
The LCD Panel Assembly includes the LCD Panel, BT3-Board (TCON/ HFR), and LED Backlight system. The LCD Panel contains the actual liquid crystals, color filters, and polarizers. The liquid crystals are manipulated by the applied voltage to pass a specific amount of light - from the backlight- depending on the level of voltage applied. The panel resolution on the EX1S chassis model is 1920 X 1080 lines. This is considered a 1080P Full High-Definition model.
The BT3-Board (TCON & HFR) performs all the control, timing, charge, and discharge functions driving the operation of the LCD Panel. The HFR (High Frame Rate) section performs the 60Hz to 120Hz frame refresh rate conversion.
All-White LED Edge Backlight System
The top, bottom, left, and right edge LEDs generate the white light that is captured and evenly spread across the panel by a Light Guide Plate. The captured light then passes through the liquid crystals in the LCD Panel. The light guide operates in the same way a fiber optic cable operates. There is a light source which generates the light and the fiber optic cable (glass fibers) retains the light within its boundaries.
POWER SUPPLY TROUBLESHOOTING 
Normal Operation
110VAC is applied to the GS1-Board, and can be measured at CN6000. In the standby mode the AC power passes through the main fuse F6001, R6001 (Inrush resistor), and BD6001 and is applied to the Main DC/DC Converter IC6501 and the Standby DC/DC Converter IC6200. IC6501 is not active in the standby mode. However, IC6200 is active in standby mode and outputs STBY 3.3Vdc as long as AC power is applied to the TV (and the GS1-Board). The Standby 3.3Vdc is supplied to the BEMicroprocessor, H1L-Board (Power Key), and H4L-Board (IR Sensor) in the standby mode.
Once an ON command is received form the remote controller or the power button on the H1L-Board the BE-Microprocessor outputs the Power-ON signal. The Power-On signal is applied to the GS1-Board. On the GS1- Board the Power-On signal switches the 19V from the standby powersupply to activate the relay (RY6001), PFC, and Main Power supply. One relay click is heard at power-on. The relay engages to bypass the inrush resistor R6001 during the ON state.
The BE-Microprocessor also outputs additional Power.-On signals to activate all the voltage regulators on the B-Board to complete the TV power on sequence The main power supply IC6501 is now active and outputting a single 12Vdc secondary supply. This single 12Vdc secondary supplies the following four sections in the TV.
# B-Board Audio Output Amplifier (AU12Vdc)
# B-Board Voltage Regulators (Reg 12Vdc)
# BT3-Board (Reg 12Vdc)
# LD1-Board (Reg 12Vdc)
The GS1-Board also supplies 390Vdc and 18Vdc to the LD1-Board (LED Backlight Power Board). The 390Vdc supplies each converter high-power output switching transistors, and the 18V is the VCC for each converter
Failure Symptoms
An actual power supply (GS1-Board) failure will cause one of the following failure symptoms.
# No Power/Dead Set (AC LVP or STBY 3.3Vdc)
# 2X Protection Blink Pattern (12Vdc LVP or OVP)
# 6X Protection Blink Pattern (18Vdc LVP)
NOTE: The protection LED blink patterns occur using the RED Power
LED at the lower right of the front panel.
No Power/Dead Set (TV will not Turn ON)
In a dead set condition there will be No Green Power-LED illumination and No Relay Click.
The following bullet list gives the possible failures for a “No Power/Dead Set” condition.
# Loss of AC Power (AC Outlet)
# Loss of AC_OFF_DET (GS1-Board)
# Loss of Standby 3.3Vdc (GS1-Board)
# Defective Main Microprocessor (B-Board)
The first step in troubleshooting a “No Power/Dead Set” condition is to confirm that 110VAC power from an active AC outlet is applied to the GS1-Board. AC power is applied to, and can be measured at CN6000 on the GS1-Board. After confirming that AC power is applied to CN6000 check that the AC is detected by the GS1-Board. Check the AC_OFF_ DET voltage at CN6157/pin 2. The voltage level should be 3.3V when the GS1-Board successfully detects the AC power input. If the voltage is 0V a dead set conditon will occur. In this case, replace the GS1-Board. After confirming the AC power, check for a defective Standby 3.3Vdc power supply IC6200. To confirm a defective IC6200 check the 3.3V secondary voltage at CN6157/pin 3. As long as AC power is applied to the TV IC6200 should be active and outputting 3.3Vdc
Finally, a “Dead Set” condition can be caused by a defective BE microprocessor IC3001. The main microprocessor outputs the PowerOn signal which activates switch Q6404 and passes the 19V from the Standby power supply to activate the relay, PFC, and Main Power Supply on the GS1-Board. If the Power-On signal is not output after receiving the power-on command the GS1-Board circuits remain inactive and a “Dead Set” condition exists. The Power-On signal can be checked at CN6157/ pin 1. It should measure approximately 3V.dc If the measurement is 0Vdc before shut-off the BE microprocessor is defective.
2X Protection Mode Blink Pattern
A loss or excessive condition of the 12Vdc secondary voltage from the main power supply IC6501 will cause a 2X blink pattern on the PowerLED. The 12Vdc can be checked at CN6156/pin 3. If the measurement is 0V or rises above 12Vdc before the TV shuts-off the GS1-Board is defective.
If approximately 12Vdc is present and remains below 12Vdc before shutoff then the B-Board is defective. Before replacing the GS1-Board for a failure confirm that the B-Board is sending the Power-On command to turn on the power supply circuits on the GS1-Board. The Power-On voltage can be checked at CN6157/pin 1. The normal voltage level at power-on is 3Vdc. If the 3Vdc is not present before shut-off replace the B-Board. If the 3Vdc is present replace the GS1-Board.
6X Protection Mode Blink Pattern
Although a 6X protection blink pattern normally indicates a backlight error, a defect on the GS1-Board can cause this indication. A loss of the 18Vdc from the main power supply on the GS1-Board will cause a 6X. Because the 18Vdc is the supply voltage to the LD1-Board backlight converter ICs, a loss of it causes no converter function, and consequently no backlight and 6X. The 18Vdc can be checked at CN6501/pin 3. The voltage should measure approximately 18Vdc before shut-off. If measurement is 0Vdc the GS1-Board is defective. If 18V is present the LD1-Board is defective.
LED BACK LIGHT SYSTEM TROUBLE SHOOTING 
Normal Operation
The LD1-Board is the power supply for the LED backlighting. It takes the 390Vdc from the GS1-Board and converts it to highly regulated positive and negative 58Vdc to 95Vdc LED drive voltages. These voltages can be measured at CN6781, CN6782, CN6783, and CN6784. Control voltages from the B-Board are also supplied to the LD1-Board. The BL_ON signal turns on the backlights. The Dimmer controls the backlight level. The INV_ERR which is normally low goes to 3V during a backlight error. The panel backlighting illuminates approximately 5 seconds after the H1LBoard or remote control power button is pressed. The backlight remains illuminated and the information banner is immediately displayed. The video is then display after another 2 seconds.
Failure Symptoms
NOTE: The protection LED blink patterns occur using the RED Power LED at the lower right of the front panel. An actual Backlight (LED) or Backlight power supply (LD1-Board) failure will cause one of the following failure symptoms.
# No Backlight & 6X Protection Blink Pattern
# Momentary Backlight & 6X Protection Blink Patter
The first step in troubleshooting a backlight error is to view the screen and note the state of the backlight before shut-off and 6X. Does the backlight momentarily illuminate or is there no backlight at all? This one step provides valuable information in locating the defective component. Reference the following two sections for more details concerning each symptom.
No Backlight & 6X Protection Blink Pattern
Video and audio may or may not be present before shut-off. Although there is no backlight the presence of video can be confirmed by shining a flashlight on the front TV screen. Video can be seen in the lighted area.
NOTE: To confirm that the LD1-Board is actually detecting a backlight failure check the INV-ERR volatge at CN6780/pin 1. The voltage will go high 2V at power on and then low 0V when the backlight is turned off. This cycle will occur twice as the microprocessor makes two attempts to illuminate the backlights. After two attempts the TV shuts off and a 6X blink pattern is activated.
The following failures can cause a “No Backlight & 6X“ condition.
# Defective LD1-Board
# Loss of 18Vdc (GS1-Board)
# Loss of BL_ON/OFF Signal (B-Board)
# Loss of 390Vdc (GS1-Board - connection only)
# Loss of 12Vdc (GS1-Board - connection only)
Before replacing the LD1-Board check the supply voltages and control signal needed for proper function of the board. First check the 18Vdc supply from the GS1-Board at CN6721/pin 3. If the 18Vdc in missing replace the GS1-Board.
If the 18V is present check for the BL_ON control signal from the B-Board. The BL_ON is normally 3V at CN6780/pin 2. If this voltage is missing replace the B-Board.
If the power-on 3V is present then check the 390Vdc and 12Vdc connections between the GS1-Board and the LD1-Board. Check the following physical connections as indicated.
# 390V - CN6500 (GS1-Board) to CN6720 (LD1-Board)
# 12V - CN6157 (GS1-Board) to CN6780 (LD1-Board)
If all the previous voltages and the control signal check okay and the TV still shuts-off and indicates a 6X replace the LD1-Board.
Momentary Backlight & 6X Protection Blink Pattern
The following two failures can cause a “Momentary Backlight & 6X” condition.
# Defective Panel LED or LEDs
# Defective LD1-Board (single voltage output)
NOTE: To confirm that the LD1-Board is actually detecting a backlight failure check the INV-ERR volatge at CN6780/pin 1. The voltage will go high 2V at power on and then low 0V when the backlight is turned off. This cycle will occur twice as the microprocessor makes two attempts to illuminate the backlights. After two attempts the TV shuts off and a 6X blink pattern is activated.
When the TV is initially turned on the backlight will momentarily come on 2 times and then the TV shuts-off and indicates a 6X protection blink pattern. The backlight system makes 2 attempts to light the LEDs. The AC relay clicks three times with a few seconds between each click. After the final relay click the 6X is activated. First check the LD1-Board outputs at CN6781, CN6782, CN6783, and CN6784. The voltage measurement at CN6781 and CN6783 will be a positive 56Vdc to 95Vdc level, and the measurement at CN6782 and CN6784 will be a negative 56Vdc to 95Vdc level. The labels on the connectors are as follows. LS-B (Bottom Edge)
LS-T (Top Edge)
LS-R (Right Edge)
LS-L (Left Edge)
The bottom and top voltages will measure towards the 85Vdc level and the left and right voltages will measure towards the 70Vdc level. If one or more outputs are missing replace the LD1-Board. If all the voltages are present and the TV is still shutting off and indicating a 6X blink pattern then the LCD Panel assembly is defective.
PROTECTION SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING 
The KLV-40ZX1M includes the following protection mode blink patterns.
NOTE: All protection mode blink patterns occur using the RED PowerLED at the lower right front of the TV.
2 Bink - Power Error (12V)
The 2X Power-LED blink pattern basically indicates a power supply error. Something has caused the main power supply IC6501 not to output the 12V secondary voltage. The 12V is monitored directly by the BEMicroprocessor on the B-Board. If the 12V is not detected at power-on, a 2X blink pattern is activated. This blink pattern can also be caused by a missing Power-On signal from
 the B-Board. Reference the “2X Protection Mode Blink Pattern” description in the Power Supply Troubleshooting section for more details.
3 Blink- Regulator Error (5V)
The 3X protection mode blink can only be caused by a defective 5V regulator IC2505 or an open F2502 on the B-Board. Therefore, if the TV is shutting-off and a 3X blink pattern is activated replace the B-Board.
6 Blink - Backlight Error
The 6X protection mode blink pattern is caused by any error in the backlight system including the LEDs in the LCD Panel assembly. Reference the “LED Backlight System Troubleshooting” section for more details on troubleshooting when this blink pattern occurs.
7 Blink - Temperature Error
This model does not display a temperature warning OSD dialogue box before shutting-off and going into a 7X Power-LED blink pattern. It will just shut-off and activates a 7X.
The main objective when a 7X blink pattern occurs is to determine which of the following possible defects is causing the excessive temperature indication.
# Excessively Ambient Room Temperature
# Dust or Debris Blocking the TV Ventilation Apertures
# Defective Temperature Sensor IC3502 or BE-Microprocessor (B-Board)
The first step is to notice how long it takes the TV to shut-off and trigger a 7X blink protection mode.
If the TV has an actual excessive temperature condition it will take a considerable period of time to shut off and activate a 7X blink protection mode. This is because it will take time for the TV to heat up and for the temperature sensor to detect the excessive temperature and shut the TV off
If the TV takes a considerable period of time to shut off check the following items:
# The TV should not be located too close to any heating elements.
# The TV should have at least 4 inches of clearance around all sides to ensure adequate ventilation.
# Check that all vented areas on the TV are clear of all Dust and Debris.
If the TV shuts off immediately (Not an Actual Excessive Temperature Condition) after the TV powers ON then one of the following components has failed.
# Main Microprocessor IC3011 (B-Board)
# Temperature Sensor IC3502 (B-Board) In either case, the B-Board must be replaced to fix the problem.
8 Blink - Audio Error
The 8X blink protection mode occurs when one of the audio outputs is shorted, a DC voltage level is present on the outputs, or the AU12V is missing. In most cases, an audio problem will exist within the audio circuit, which is located completely on the B-Board. However, before replacing the B-Board perform the following checks.
# Check the AU12V at CN2502/pin 3 on the B-Board. If 12V is present replace the B-Board. If the 12V is missing check the connections at CN2502 (B-Board) and CN6156 (GS1- Board).
# Check the TV-STAND speakers and/or speaker connections for damage. The speakers should measure
8 ohms. Check all connectors and wiring for damage.
Replace and repair components where needed.
If the TV still shuts off (8X) then the problem is with the Main microprocessor, and consequently, the B-Board must be replaced.
10 Blink - Trident Communications Error
Replace the B-Board when the 10X protection mode blink pattern occurs
12 Blink - HFR Communications Error
First replace the LCD Panel assembly (includes the BT3-Board) if the 12X protection mode blink pattern occurs. If the panel does not repair the problem then the B-Board must be defective.
14 Blink - TCON Communications Error
First, check the 12V at CN6159/pin 1 on the GS1-Board. The 12V is a fused (F6150) supply voltage to the TCON/HFR board. The fuse is located on the GS1-Board, therefore, a GS1-Board failure (open fuse can activate a 14X blink pattern. Second, check the 12V at CN4700/pins 47-51 on the B-Board. The 12V is a fused (F2501) supply voltage to the TCON/HFR board. The fuse is located on the B-Board, therefore, a B-Board failure (open fuse can activate a 14X blink pattern. If the 12V checks okay, first replace the LCD Panel assembly (includes the BT3-Board). If the panel does not repair the problem then the B-Board must be defective.
Factory Reset for EX 1S Chassis
1) Turn the TV On.
2) Press and Hold the “Up Arrow” on the remote controller .
3) Press and Hold the “Power” button on the TV top key Panel .
Note: The screen will go blank.
4) Release the “Up Arrow” Button
5) Release “Power” button
6) TV will turn on automatically with the “Language” dialog box displayed
7) The TV is now reset to Factory settings
